“I want our customers to be better at what they do – I’m selling the idea that there’s a smarter way to work.”
Although Tord Ringenhall is CEO of Taipuva Sweden, he sees himself as a salesman and an enabler. He wants Taipuva to be an obvious partner, and focus on doing what the customer needs, not what they ask for. The goal is for customers to become better at what they do, gain knowledge and develop their ability to work in a structured way. Customers are from very different industries but have one thing in common: the structure of information.
Tord likes it when things go fast and his passion for racing has rubbed off on his job as CEO at Taipuva. Being fast, efficient and constantly in motion is important to him. Change and simplifying processes are a common thread throughout his professional life.
“When I look back on my career, I can see that I have built a toolbox with a focus on always working smarter and reusing what you can. In all projects, regardless of industry, similar challenges are faced. What we do at Taipuva is to find the right way to work with requirements on several levels. If you build a structure, you can then reuse it in other projects. I would think that 60-90% of the work on one customer can be applied to the next.”
In product development, it is easy to run on solutions directly in a development phase.Taipuva helps with structuring needs and solutions, as many people find it difficult to cope with it on their own. You need to spend time at the beginning and focus on what you want to achieve, that time you get again in increased efficiency and if changes happen along the way. This methodology can be applied to many different industries.
“I have had meetings with industrial companies, construction companies, hospitals, vaccine companies and train companies, common to them is that everyone needs structure in information. What do you need to create and what can be reused? The amount of requirements makes it complex, which means that you have to find a common mindset and goals, but also find solutions for how data generated by one department can be useful for another department, for example,” says Tord.
From economics student to systems engineer
Tord moved from Jämtland as soon as he got his driver’s license and thought he would become an economist one day. But during his economics studies in Umeå, he discovered that his way of thinking did not fit in so well.
“I wasn’t challenged by it. There were too many finished models and no room to think for yourself. It didn’t suit me as a person. That’s why I changed direction. Since I have always had an easy time with math, nature and physics, so I applied to that area. In order to get a stable foundation and general education, I studied engineering physics, which has given me an ability to see problem solving in a different way. I focused on how systems work in general and became a systems engineer.”
During his career, he has come across what happens when you do not have a well-functioning structure and share data between departments. Back in 2004, he had an idea to create a system to help sellers sell the right things, give them guidance and then reuse that data.
“I discovered that something was often dropped along the way, my role at that company was to take care of what didn’t work once the plant was in operation. So the idea that there must be a way to make this more effective was born even then. How do you get departments to share data and start communicating with each other in a structured way? Perhaps you will find out the errors earlier? Reusing what you can and focusing on what’s new has been with me ever since.”
Taipuva as a partner develops the customer’s ability
Thanks to an old colleague, he caught the eye of Taipuva and started as a consultant. Quickly came the need for a branch in Sweden and Tord took on the CEO role from the start. His goal for Taipuva is clear:
“In this industry, it is common to make point efforts as a consultant. We want to think more long-term and be more like a partner that gives companies the ability to run their business efficiently. Our customers understand and value that they now have a structure to create products to the right quality and within the time frame. We want to work with the customers who lead the development in their industry, those who think beyond legal requirements but think more about the purpose. Because it is the case that when the industry does not deliver on security, then it will lead to legal requirements and regulations that adjust this. Here we can be a safe partner who can guide the customer to work more proactively,” concludes Tord.
